How to Pose During Your Photo Session: Capturing Genuine Moments

When it comes to family photo sessions, there’s no need to stress about perfect poses or forcing smiles. My goal is to create an environment where authentic interactions and natural expressions shine through. Here’s how we can work together to make that happen:

1. No Need to ‘Cheese’!

Forget the forced grins—I’m all about capturing genuine moments. I’m looking for the real, unposed interactions that reflect your family’s true personality. So, let your kids be themselves, and don’t worry about coaxing out those big, staged smiles.

2. Kids and the Camera

If your little ones, especially those aged 5-10, tend to “cheese” as soon as they see a camera, it’s completely normal! It’s what they’ve been taught to do. But during our session, I encourage you to engage with them playfully—laugh, joke around, and have fun. This helps me capture those candid, heartwarming moments that you’ll cherish forever.

3. Laugh, Play, and Snuggle

The best photos are the ones where you’re simply being yourselves. Don’t be afraid to laugh, play, tickle, and snuggle with your loved ones. These actions create the real, emotional moments that make a photo truly special.

4. Not Everyone Needs to Look at the Camera

Believe it or not, not everyone has to be staring at the camera! In fact, I often suggest that the gentlemen in the family, especially dads, focus on their partners and kids instead. This creates a more natural and intimate feel to the photos, and most guys actually prefer it!

5. When in Doubt, Smile at Your Family

If you’re unsure of what to do, a simple, loving smile at your family members goes a long way. It’s a timeless way to capture the bond you share.

6. Stand Close Together

When I say close, I mean really close! The tighter the group, the more connected you’ll appear in the photos. It’s all about showing that closeness and love.

7. Relax and Be Present

The best advice I can give is to relax, slow down, and don’t try to force anything. There’s no need for perfection—just be present with your family, and let me handle the rest. And if the kids get fussy, don’t worry. I’m a former teacher and an experienced photographer, so I’ve seen it all. Just cuddle your little ones, and we’ll still capture beautiful images.

8. Expect a Little Movement

During the session, I’ll guide you through different spots and setups to add variety to your gallery. The more we mix things up, the more opportunities we have to create a diverse collection of stunning photos that tell your family’s unique story.

By following these simple tips, we’ll work together to create a relaxed and enjoyable photo session that captures the true essence of your family. Remember, the most beautiful photos are the ones that capture real love, laughter, and connection. I can’t wait to help you create those memories!
